Some Power Quality Issues in Power Substation from Residential and Educational Buildings

The paper analyses the power quality in power substations from residential and educational buildings (campus university). Measurements were performed in two days, one in a weekday, and one in a weekend, to highlight differences. Measurements in the power substation were performed using power quality analyser. Electrical measurements were performed for voltages and currents spectra, Fresnel diagrams, RMS phase voltages and currents, total harmonic distortions, crest factors, unbalance for voltages and currents, and harmonics (from 3 to 19 ranks) for currents, and power factors. The unbalance of nonlinear loads in three-phases low voltage network conducts to losses in power transformers, the additional charge of neutral conductor, and unexpected operation of circuit breakers. By uniform arrangement of inductive and capacitive loads on three-phases low voltage network, can be achieved in power substation the power factor over 0.92.
