PV cells I-V characteristic. Explicit equation with three parameters and its simplified forms

The objective of this paper is to present an explicit form for the I-V characteristic equation based on three parameters (ideality factor, series resistance and shunt resistance). Three simplified forms of this relationship are presented and these are compared with non-simplified form. By this comparison are highlighted the influences of the adopted simplifications on the accuracy of the I-V curve. The comparative study indicates that two of simplified forms are very accurate. The main advantages of these forms are the reduced number of parameters and the simplicity of the relationships which makes more easy to use for subsequent analytic/numeric operations such as derivative and integral calculus. Presented simplified forms can improve the processing time for the estimation of main parameters of the PV cells/modules.
