Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch using Whale optimization algorithm
This paper proposes a new training algorithmbased on the recently proposed whale optimization algorithm(WOA), which is inspired from the bubble net hunting strategy of humpback whales. WOA algorithm is applied to solve the optimal reactive power dispatch problem (ORPD) of power system. The performance of the proposed WOA has been tested, successfully, on standard IEEE-30 and IEEE-118bus test power systems for the solution of ORPD problem in which control of bus voltages, tap position of transformers and reactive power sources are involved. Moreover, another method, namely, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and other techniques from the literature have been compared with the proposed technique. Simulation results indicate that the proposed WOA gives superior solution over the other recently surfaced popular techniques in terms of effectiveness and
convergence speed.
