Numerical Modeling of a Planar Transformer for Micro-Power Controllers

The recent development of low power electronic integrated circuits (ICs) poses higher and higher energy consumption constraints on the energy harvesting (EH) devices. The DC/DC converting stage is backed-up by electric power transformers. This paper presents the mathematical model and numerical simulation results for a small size, planar flyback power transformer (FBT), whose central column is provided with an air gap. The FBT is powered by a pulse width modulate (PWM) voltage supply at 1 kHz. The inductances that model the FBT are also computed.
